The Wowee Zonk Small Press Space is celebrating its 10th anniversary at TCAF this year. Artist Alicia Nauta will be displaying an installation in the windows of the browsery at Toronto Reference Library, Wowee Zonk’s traditional space within the library, to highlight the space and its connection to the printmaking and fine art communities in Toronto.
The installation art will consist of a mix of transparent vinyl and screen prints, and will be visible from within the library as well as through the windows facing onto Yonge Street.
Below you can see an example of one of Alicia Nauta’s previous installations, at Artspace Yongeplace.
About Alica Nauta:
Alicia Nauta is a Toronto based artist. She makes screen-printed posters, prints, wallpaper, installations, books, printed textiles and other multiples. Her focus is on analogue ways of making, using Xerox material culled from older publications found in thrift stores and reference libraries to create collaged compositions. The collages reflect on the dualities and exchanges present in all forms of human and natural life: with light, there is darkness; with progress, there is decline. The natural vs. manufactured world are often in tension with each other in her compositions; spaces are inhabited by plants and strange, shifting perspectives, suggesting possibility found in the uncertain and unwritten future. She is interested in multiples, created through various print methods, for their democratic and accessible qualities.
